I have rarely been spoilt for choice of sporting events to watch in my 28 years as a sports writer as I have been over the past few days at Delhi 2010. The wonderful assembly of world, Olympic and continental medalists here – in swimming and shooting, cycling and athletics, hockey and tennis and a lot of other sport – has given the sports fan in me much to cheer about. Is it foolish to dream of purity in sport?

The name Vijaya Nadar did not ring a bell and since her e-mail subject line said ‘Hello’, I instinctively wanted to delete the mail, thinking it was another spam mail. But my curiosity was aroused when I noticed that the author had obviously had only clicked on the Reply All option in one of her own mails, edited the subject and sent a whole lot of people an anguished note.
