Super Vettel remains hungry, eager to learn all the time

The greatest champions of sport are constantly seeking perfection, looking to learn all the time and keep making incremental improvements. Red Bull Racing’s German ace Sebastian Vettel, who has already secured this season’s world Formula One championship, showed that he has all such qualities by remaining motivated and hungry to win the inaugural Grand Prix of India in Greater Noida on Sunday.

On Saturday, he was in complete command of car and strategy as he claimed pole position for the 13th time this season with a lap of 1 minute 24.178 seconds in qualifying. In doing so, he showed that he was eager to become ‘a happy and proud’ first winner of the Grand Prix of India and secure his 11th victory in 17 races this season. He was only underscoring that excellence was only a matter of habit.

Many emotions on show, dust adds to challenge

National pride was showcased the strongest as India joined an elite league of nations hosting F1 Grands Prix.

Of course, there was a whole gamut of emotions on show on Friday, not the least being the delight that HRT Racing’s Narain Karthikeyan experienced. He will have the honour of being the only Indian on the starting grid on Sunday and naturally had many things running through his mind as he went on the first lap in the morning.

Simulator, Xbox help drivers prepare for new track

The Buddh International Circuit opened to great fanfare but with the FIA and F1 teams fine-tuning the track and its facilities, the drivers of either the Airtel Grand Prix of India or its support races, the JK Racing Asia Series and the Delhi Championship with MRF, will not be able to get on track until the formal practice session on Friday.

The driver is but the face of an F1 team

It may seem that the Driver is almost entirely responsible for his own success or failure in a Formula 1 race. But the drivers, be it the legendary Michael Schumacher or the young champion Sebastian Vettel, be it Fernando Alonso or Lewis Hamilton, will be the first to concede that there is more to a Formula 1 team than just the driver.

“We had a very good car but more so we had a very good package, a very good team, a lot of good people around and all of those people were happy to work hand in hand, work together, 100 per cent committed. I think that’s the only way you can be ready to have such a year with all of those results that we’ve had so far,” Vettel said after sealing his second World championship title earlier this year.
