The best eight teams in the world have made it to the quarterfinals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and there could have been no better line up at this stage, much as fans of Bangladesh and Ireland cricket may disagree.
I was the happiest when the Indian cricket team fought hard and beat back the West Indies’ challenge rather than tank the game in the quest of a so-called easier quarterfinal against Sri Lanka. That the team opted to take the confidence of a win into the last eight tussle with Australia rather than two successive defeats is a good sign indeed.
Below are links to two audio files that are excerpts from a chat I had on a programme called Spotlight on All India Radio. I have assessed the quarterfinals and said I favour Pakistan, India, South Africa and Sri Lanka to come through to the semifinals, despite Brett Lee and company.
